"Famous Couples" Inspired Penguin Book Covers
Tasked with creating a book cover of a famous couple of fact or fiction, young or old, I decided to create a book cover for Achilles and Patroclus from the Madeline Miller's book, "The Song of Achilles." Since the publisher was Penguin Books, I wanted to stay true to some of their classic styles and add in various illustrations befitting of both characters and their story. This is my process.

1 / Choose Three Visual Adjectives for your Chosen Couple
Choose three adjectives to describe each character of your couple as well as their overall relationship. In all, there should be nine adjectives. After that, connect each adjective to a tangible/physical object.

By using a variety of materials, bring to life each of the adjectives and visual icons you connected together. There should now be nine physical creations.

Take photos and draw depictions of your visual metaphors combined with one another. Focus on how the combinations create new suggestions and meanings.

By using these visual images and connections, create a variation of book covers. Explore different layouts. Explore various typography combinations as well as visual hierarchy.
